Kale's Cottage features a fantastic king bed and is the epitome of unique and comfortable stays in Western Colorado. Our award winning, pet-friendly Solargon Cottage boasts a clean and elegant design, and is located just a half-mile walk away from the charming downtown of Paonia. The ultra efficient 374 square foot space offers 1 gig wifi, a fully stocked kitchen, a cozy and romantic wood stove, laundry facilities, and even seasonal farm-to-table items. Whether you're traveling for business, adventure, or a special getaway, Kale's Cottage has provided the perfect home away from home for nine years and counting.
Our cottage features a modern and cozy interior, including a full kitchen, a beautiful Lopi 1250 wood stove, a love seat, work table and a walk-in tiled shower. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, and we provide a BBQ grill for outdoor dining. Our earth-friendly Solargon Cottage was chosen as one of 40 sustainable structures worldwide, and is designed for energy efficiency.
Nestled on the edge of town, Kale's Cottage is surrounded by lush greenery, open spaces, vibrant gardens, and towering trees, creating a haven for both relaxation and birdwatching. This spring, the air is alive with the songs and sights of a variety of feathered friends, including the European Starling, Northern Flicker, House Sparrow, House Finch, Brown-headed Cowbird, Eurasian Collared-Dove, American Crow, Dark-eyed Junco, Mountain Chickadee, Black-capped Chickadee, Black-billed Magpie, Spotted Towhee, American Robin, and American Goldfinch. Whether you’re sipping your morning coffee or enjoying an evening stroll, you’ll be serenaded by birdsong and treated to magical moments that change with the days, weeks, and seasons. We offer private and secure parking, and our location is just a few minutes away from downtown Paonia, where you can enjoy local restaurants, brewpubs, wineries, and live music. Our 1-acre homestead is easily accessible and we encourage guests to walk or bike to town, taking in the stunning views of the West Elk Wilderness and North Fork Valley.
The cottage includes a wall-mounted Eco Heater and a radiant heater, ensuring a warm and cozy stay. The full indoor kitchen includes a 30-inch stove, a luxurious Liebherr refrigerator, pots, pans, dishes, and cooking oil. Cottage guests also have access to our "guest services laundry room".

Casual and relaxing

Unique experience. Close to town and totally private! Lots of birds and flowers. So good, we stayed an extra day. Owner was very responsive and suggested things to do in this small town! Would stay there again.

Singing Winds and Peace

Rustic elegance with the addition of a spiritual vibe, wind chimes and prayer flags bring the feeling of the outdoors as an element for the attention. Kale had earned a top rating as a host for all of the best reasons, responsiveness, kindly accommodating and generous. Thank you Kale, we accomplished my business in Paonia with smooth comfort.

This was a wonderful place to stay. Super clean, kitchen was well stocked. Great communication and definitely take a picture of the directions, as there is very little cell service in the area.

A true treat

We absolutely loved staying at Kale's cottage and I have no doubt we will return in the future! I love Paonia and the North Fork Valley and this stay reflected a lot of what I love about the area. It is homey and magical and down to earth. I didn't realize how big the yard is when booking it and that was such a nice surprise! Thank you Kale for hosting us!

A block away

I love this spot. It’s just a block away from my daughter’s small home and provides us all a measure of relaxation during a visit to Paonia. I’ve now visited in winter and summer, the space and yard are a little sanctuary both seasons.

Sweet Retreat

This property has an almost magical feel entering it. It was pretty easy to find. It shares the beginnings of the road with another home but has plenty of parking space once you turn on the road. You meander through a green space on stone steps by a little covered porch, a firepit area with chairs, and beyond it is the cabin. There is a convenient lock box (and the host sends the code). Once you enter it is one round room with a bathroom off it. It has a skylight and the lighting is very nice. It was quiet, the bed was perfect (rather firm which I loved), the bedding was lovely, I'm a snob about linens and it was not microfiber ;) or cheap. (although I got hot with the comforter). You have a woodburning stove if you feel comfortable using it, and a window air conditioner if you are hot. It has all the amenities you want (except we did not see a microwave). We would definitely stay here if passing through again. Thanks to the host for a lovely stay. O and we ate at the Diner downtown for breakfast which was lovely.

Private, in town cottage

We really enjoyed our stay, especially the private yet close to town aspect. There are many great restaurants and a brewery a short distance away. We took a wine tour as the region had many great wineries. Breakfast may or may not be available at restaurants but cooking requirements are there so no problem.

Enjoyed some of the wineries and markets but a little too early in the season for picking any fruits. Found several tasty restaurants. Nice, clean inside the vrbo but outside yard, gardens, fencing need some TLC.
