Holiday from hell, terrifying experience
Such a stressful experience and we’re so glad to be home safe. According to Villafinca who the contract is actually with, it’s ‘against Spanish law’ for the agent to give us the Landlord’s phone number and for him to meet us and show us where the house is, so all we were given was a gps point by text message turned out to be wrong. It sent us up an unpaved hiking path full of sharp rocks which lead to a dead end and steep drop. Had to slide backwards with our motion sensors beeping to the max down the mountain, avoiding the steep precipice (no fence) and suddenly heard a big bump and loud hiss: a rock had sliced our tyre. Now try with a flat! We managed to slide down and onto the main road until the car wouldn’t go any further and beg a local family having dinner in their garden at the bottom to help.. Luckily they said ‘oh it must be Toni, no one can ever find his house’ and Toni had to come and collect us from the side of the road with all our luggage and drive us to the house. Spent the 1st 2 days on foot sorting out our abandoned car and going back to the airport by taxi for another. Now we knew why it was the last villa on the island!Even when you know where it is, the 5 minute off-road drive is 35 gradient steep with hairpin curves where you have to do 3-point turns with a steep drop while wheelspinning. At one spot, there has been a landslide and there’s a rubble all over the road and a rock hanging on by a thread above. You will scratch your car each time you pass the olive branches and bang the underside each time you try and get back on the main road. If your car has sensors they will be beeping all the way up and down the hill. If you meet another car (and you will, there are diggers and workmen constantly blocking it in working hours) you will have to reverse as you cannot pass each other. Even if you navigate all this, the key safe is very hard to find, as is the house itself, no name on the outside and the wrong gps location is given which will keep jumping anyway so you will never find it. Villafinca are indifferent and don’t respond to emails. Calls will be on hold for ages. Their own technician crashed his van trying to bring the 2 fans in the listing that weren’t there. After battling 3 hours with the incorrect address, he crashed his van and wheel spun so much he had to walk up. He admitted how awful the road is and unsafe for tourists and told the agency but they still refused to move us (we made daily unheard requests).
